Aguilas – is a small town in Spain, in the autonomous community of Murcia. The municipality has approximately 35,000 inhabitants, and its area is approximately 253.7 km², with approximately 28 km of coastline.
Águilas is situated between two bays – Puerto Poniente to the southwest and Puerto Levante to the northeast. Puerto de Aguilas is surrounded on the west side by a large rocky hill. At its top, there is Castillo de San Juan de las Águilas, built in the 18th century on the site of a much older Carthaginian fortification.
Three kilometres northeast of Aguilas is la Isla del Fraile (the island of monks), named for the island’s shape which is similar to a monk’s hood.
